EXPRESS TIME-TABLE

WELLINGTON-AUCKLAND

TRAIN TO LEAVE* AT. 3 P.M

In dn announcement to,tho Press to- ■ day Mr. H. H. Sterling, chairman of 1 the Government Railways Board, stated ' that the board had, at .its last meeting, examined the proposal for the altora- > tion in tho departure time of the. 1 ordinary express from Wellington to.' I ■ Auckland from 2 o'clock to 3 o'clock.. The whole of the circumstances affecting the proposal, including representa- '. tions that had been received, had bee;a very exhaustively gone into, and th<i board had come to the conclusion thait : the balance of advantago ljy decided!]/' with the 3 o'clock departure time. I'fc had therefore been decided by tho boa? d to /alter the* departure time of the traj n to that hour, and the alteration woa'ld take effect from June 5 next. The tirno of arrival at Auckland under the nr.;w schedule will be 7.6 a.m. This v.-ill make .the total running time of the train.between Wellington, and Auckland thirty-two minutes less than under the present schedule. This has been made possible by tho varying incidents associated with singlo line working, enabling a better schedule to bo obtained with tho 3" o 'clock departure thrnii was possiblcunder the time-table that is at present in operation. A numbor of consequential re-arrangenients of other train services—of a more of less minor nature —would be necessary to fit in with the altered running of the c xprcss, and these alterations would bo made public in due course. >
