' Squaciron-'Leadcr Gayford anj FHght-Lientenant Nicholctts, who won, for Britain the world non-stop long-1 distance record by a 5309 miles flight; from Cranwcll to Walvis Bay, reached England today. They have flown back from South Africa in easy stages, and on landing at Farnborongh, Hamp-i shire, were greeted by tho Air Minis* ter, Lord Londonderry, and many ofli* cials and friends. The airmen praised highly the huge Fairey Napier monoplane. They said, they knew boforc they started tho flight they would not reach Cape Town, and expected to come down near Walvis Bay. They then had fourteen gallons of petrol left, > and 130 gallons would have been required to reach the Cape. Neither of the airmen slept during the fifty-seven hours' flight.
