The opening of the shooting season o4 Wairarapa. Lake was not particularly gooi| this year/from a shooter/'s: point of vjewy and limits were obtained by only a few; sportsmen.on the first day. Weather conditions were not very suitable, and thai birds were flying high. Those who stayed on did better. ■ As usual, ducks were plentiful on most waters prior to the opening day, but soonj became wary, and remained on sarictuaricaf during the daytime. Some of'the..sane* tuaries were thick with duckd. y One party of four which returned yes* terday had excellent quail shooting iiii Lower Valley, bringing back a good mixed bag. Two pheasant limits were taken, ami reports from all parts of the district show results to men who were shooting over dogs. .
