SYDNEY, May 3. The Australian Universities'. Eugby team to visit New Zealand is announced. No Quoenslauders were available. Tho team, sails by the Monowai on May 12, returning on June 9. The manager is Mr. J. Gunther.. Tho players are as follows; — Full-backs: E. Westerfield and •T. Laurie. V , ' ' . , ..-■' . Three-quarters: A. Kennedy, E. Bamsay, D. Bowc, and K. .Turner. Five-eighths: 11. Kees and C. Lowndcs. Half-back: H. Pearson and J.,.Champain. Forwards: E. Booth, A. Robertson, L. Elias, E. Harris, J. Theodore, H. Bond, O. Lclew, M Me William, D. Emerson, J. Morrow, W. "Voucher, and E. Spring. •
C. Lowndes, one of the five-eighths, was formerly at Otago University and is at "present at the Melbourne University. He played for Melbourne against Brisbane in the universities' match last year, but was handcapped by an injured ankle which kept him out of the match, against Sydney, University. . Ha was included in the Victorian team which played "The Wallabies" at Melbourne on Tuesday. T. Laurie, former Australian Rules player, is also from Melbourne. Ho is reputed to be an excellent kicker and a. very sure, handler.- Ho has twice played with the combined Australian Universities team as full-back. D. Emnierson (Melbourne) flayed for his university two years ago when he was a recent convert to the Eugby code, lack of experience being then his only fault. He is a second. row forward, and has since improved considerably. He has plenty of dash, is a good handler, and a safe tackier. J. Morrow is a Queenslander now studying medicine at Melbourne and has represented both the Brisbane and Melbourne Universities. Still ■'-■fairly young, he promises to have a; grea.(j future as a loose forward. It is expected that the New Zealand tour will give his play the necessary polish. P. Turner, wing-three-quarter, and Voucher and Spring, forwards, are- Melbourne players who have only recently come into prominence. J. Theodore (Sydney) is a son of tho former Federal treasurer. As a freshman last year he took the place of Norton, , the New South Wales hooker, in the university team to play against Brisbane and was eventually selected in the Combined Universities team. He is expected to be in the tourists' first fifteen. Harris (Sydney) is a breakaway forward who played f t grade football last season and will considerably the pack. With the experience gained on the tour,-he is likely to become one of Sydney's best breakaway forwards. Unless any alteration is necessary as the result of the shipping trouble, the team is to leave Sydney by the. Monowai. for Auckland on Friday of next week. Arriving at Auckland on May 15, it Is to play Auckland University College, on May 17, the first Test against New Zealand University, at. Auckland, the following Saturday, and Victoria College, at Athletic Park, ou AVednesday, May 24. The remaining Tests will be played at Duuedin and Christchurch. ,- ;■ ■ ;
