On December 31 last there i had tjcen. 'issued 5,262,953 -licences, an ' increase 'for tho year of 932,215. | Licences issued free to blind listeners totalled 34,834. Wireless appeals, it is stated, pro-1 duced a 1 total of £99,001, an increase of. £33,327, compared with the previousl 1 year. Tho number of intecnatibnal relays during {tho year, increased eonj "jidcrably," and in May alone there were, IS2 such relays—or more than one per day. I The total number of hours of transmission was 59,547, and the total breakdown time for all transmitters--was-17 hours 6 minute's, or .02875 per cent. During the'year £245,468 of capital expenditure was incurred, making a net total of £1,639,299. There is a,' reserve of liquid assets totalling £213,630.' Net licence income'was '£1^306,454, and' net .revenue front 'publications £322,285. The 8.8.C. authorities are in search of tho "perfect humorous programme" and the means of transmitting it. In their-report they .state: — "Many new experiments were made in methods of presentation, and the search'for original material continued. The problem of conveying humour purely by oral methods within the limitations of microphone and programme policy has not yet been solved.. The success °' humour depends more than is generally realised upon visual impression and on an audience."
