OPENING DANCE
The opening dance-of the Wellington Athenian Club's season was held last evening in the Pharmacy Hall, Cambridge Terrace, where many dub members and friends enjoyed a delightful evening of music and dancing. ' Old and new members and visitors were welcomed by the president (Mr. J. C. Burberry), who asked for the continued co-operation of members, iind expressed a hope for an even more successful year than formerly had been enjoyed. He specially welcomed Mr. Vl' Nolan (secretary at the "Charley's Aunt" Club) and Mrs. Nolan. Tim well-selected programme which had been arranged by the committee included songs by Mr. W. Binot-Brown, humorous recitations by Miss Dorothy
Seymour, and American syncopated tap dances by Miss Muriel Wlton. Items were interspersed with Athenian "Paul Jones" and other novelty dances, for which bright music was provided by an excellent orchestra. Miss Keegan. was the official accompanist. A delicious savoury supper was served by the ladies of the committee, after which the evening closed with' the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." The executive committee members, who were, responsible for the arrangements last evening, were Mesdames H. Strange-Mure (who wore a wallflower brown embossed georgette frock), C. P. Chambers (violet maroeain and velvet), E. Loader (wine taffeta), CM. Howard. (Chinese gold georgette and lace), W. Haworth (tangerine satin), N. Battdinet (shell pink crepe satin), Messrs. J. C. Burberry (president), 0. V. O'Neill, and H. Strange-Mure (vicepresidents), W. J. Anderson (hon. secretary), C. P. Chambers (hon. treasurer), .0. J. Pirie, A. Gibbs, J. T. Parry, E. S. Walshaw, E. Loader, W. Haworth, and A. H. Williams. The visitors, included Mr. and Mrs. M. Nolan, Mr. and Mrs. J. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Scott, Mr. and Mrs. W. O 'Neill, Mr. and Mrs. Lanibaurne, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. H. Hibbs, Mrs. C. Miller, Misses M. and E. Stewart, Duff, M. Conibear, E. Herd, M. Giddings, Sehultz (2), G. Kensington, E. Cronin, D. Seymour, and M. Wiltou, and Messrs. W. J. Olsson, J. T. McCosker, C. Harvey, L. Evans, F. Roberts, S. Young, Cashmore, Allen, J. Skilton, and W. Binet-Brown. Among members present, were Mesdames W. J. Anderson (who wore mandarin velvet eaped gown), C. J. Pirie (black panne velvet gown), J. T. Parry (lacquer- red velvet), A. H. Williams (gold crinkled crepe), Monnie (crimson lace),T. Dodson (gentian, blue georgette), Delmonte (wine mariette), C. V. O'Neill (peach floral taffeta), C. Swinburno (mist blue cobweb lace), Chappell (ruby ring velvet), Griffin, Friend, Misses M. Strange-Mure (ivory floral taffeta), N. Chambers (sage green ripple silk), N. Bayliss (lilac georgette and" tissue), C. Brooks (black laco and net), Henning (pink organdie), C. Cunliffe (cherry lace and georgette), M. Farrant (carnation pink laec and tulle), Keegan (Nile green lace and net), Gibbard (ivory tulle), MeWhirtev, P. Philpott, M. and E. Stewart, L.
