SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS. An intense westerly low-pressure wave crossed the Dominion last night, and is being, closely followed by another one on the Tasman Sea. Moderate to strong northerly to westerly winds have prevailed, and the weather has been unsettled, with fairly general rain. Many heavy falls occurred during the night In all districts .with a westerly aspect and in .the far northern and central portions of the North Island, but in the eastern provinces the falls have been only light and scattered. At 9 a.m. today rain was still falling' at many placts in the western districts from Taranaki southwards, but over tho remainder of the Dominion greatly improved conditions were in evidence. The depression to the westward has delayed the change to southrwest winds, and temperatures have, consequently, continued to be mild. ■'■ <' .
