PIGEON'S LONG VOYAGE
A blue homing pigeon dew on board tho steamer Port Hunter, which arrived at Auckland from Liverpool pn Monday morning, when the vessel was 2>assing the Irish coast shortly after she left Liverpool (states the "New Zealand Herald"). Tho bird is still on board, although it was given full liberty during, the voyage. It was very exhausted when it relac>.od tho steamer's deck. Every day during the voyage the pigeon made long flights over the sea and always returned to the steamer. Through a porthole it entered the carpenter's messropm, where it made its home. The carpenter afterwards made a wooden cage inside the open port, and in the cage there was always a liberal supply of food and water. When the vessel reached Auckland tho bird was confined in the cage. Underneath the pigeon's wings /the word Birmingham and somo distinguishing letters are stamped with indelible ink, and there are rings on the Bird's legs. The pigeon will be taken back to England and its owner will be sought^
