NEWS IN BRIEF

Aiguille, who had a very rough trip from Gisborne to Ellerslie for the Auckland Easter Meeting, is still at northern headquarters. He raced at the Franklin Meeting last Saturday, and showed some of his best form while his condition lasted, but he has not yet got over the effects of his knocking about on the boat. Aiguille may compete in the handicap events at. the Te Kuiti Meeting at Te Papa on May 20 and .22. ; The crack southern hurdler Aladdin is.' engaged in the batten events at the forthcoming Wanganui fixture this month, but according ■to advices from the south it has not been decided whether to race hira at Wanganui or at,the Te Kuili Meeting at Te Rapa, the opening day of which' clashes with the final day at Wanganui. Apparent^ Callamart is to be confined to hurdle racing during the next fortnight and prior to the Great Northerns, for he is in the hurdle races at Hawcra this week and also at Wanganui, the crosscountry events at those places being given a miss. This suggests that Callamart is to run in the Great Northern Hurdles and then in the Great Northern Steeplechase, and be is not without a good chance in this big jumping double. On the other hand if he goes north early he may be seen in either the open hurdle and steeplechase events at the meeting at Te Rapa this month. Incidentally the Te Kuiti fixture there caters for both hack and open hurdlers and chasers. The weights for tlie Wanganui Jrekey Club s Winter Meeting are not due until Monday next,, go that the handicapper will be able to view the running at the Kgmont fixture. The nominations for this fixture are rjuite satisfactory, and should be productive of good fields. Special fares have been arranged by the Anchor Company for passengers wishing to attend the Nelson races. Nominations for the Woodville Jubilee Meeting on May 27 close on Friday, May 12, at 9 p.m.
