A CHARGE OF THEFT

The Supreme Court is hearing a charge of theft of £97 while a servant against Leonard Mansell Durrall Cummins, formerly an inspector of the Alliance Insurance Company, Christchurch. The defence- is that there was1 no guilty mind, but that the money was only held back. . ' Mr.- Justice McGregor, in summing up, said that the money was used by the accused for his own purposes and repaid when suspicion was thrown on him. The repayment was made with a considerable amount of cunning. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty.'. '
