Mountain Names
Romantic words and names have been lately under discussion. With the departure of the expedition to Mount Everest, it must surely occur that the names of many mountains and volcanoes are very lovely, as if calling to mountaineers to explore thorn (writes a cofrespondenti. There is Fuji-Yama.. that ' snow-clad volcano in , Japan— Stromboli, that rocky .volcanic island which encourages a few thrifty Italians to cultivate olives on its slopes. And take, too, Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, which looks like a pink throne as seen from the plains of Tanganyika at dawn. And at Euwenzori dwells the "King of the Mountains of the Moon, who is as black as ebony, and worships a large crystal." Kinchenjunga in ijhe Himalayas, and Popocatapetl, tho volcano which lies dormant in Mexico, are names which every schoolboy learns—and v-ery . few can forget the latter.
