SECONDARY INTENSIFIES

The secondary depression which developed in the rear 'of the -westerly depression, which a couple of days ago caused boisterous weather, now covers the Dominion, and has become very intense. Hence the weather forecast issued at noon today is for winds between west and south-west in direction, and strong to gale in force. The weather will be cool, squally, and changeable. Showers may be expected in districts with a westerly aspect, and showers will later extend to parts of the eastern districts. . Tho development of the secondary depression caused westerly to northwesterly winds to predominate yesterday, and .these have increased in force. A few scattered showers fell yesterday in. Westland. and in far southern districts,' but in most parts of tho country tho weather was fair to fino and cool. During last night, however, inor© rain fell in tho western and southern districts of the South Island, some of tho falls being heavy. Some showers fell in Wellington this morning, but at 9 a.m. today the weather over most of the North Island and along the East Coast of the. South Island was fair and dry. ' ■ . A light south-westerly wind prevailed in Auckland yesterday, where the weather was fine although at times 'cloudy. : . Wellington yesterday enjoyed nearly ten hours.of bright sunshine. The wind was a' cool north-westerly, which later in the day increased" in force., Conditions became boisterous again during the night, and at 3.58 a.m. today there was a gust of wind with a velocity of 62 miles an hour. Showers fell early this morning, three points of rain being recorded at Kelburn up to 9 a.m., but only one at. Lower Hutt.
