CERCLE FRANCAIS.

There was a very satisfactory attendance o£ members' and friends of the Cercle Francois, Wellington,, at the "soiree deliverturo,"' held in tho ■ Pioneer Club rooms,, Lambton Quay, last evening. A thoroughly,;enjoyalple programme of musical and elocutionary items was presented, and in addition, a one-act comedy, "La Jtfegresse," specially written for the 'occasipn by M. F. Miles), jofter apologising for the unavoidable absence through indisposition of Jlme, Beiidall,, opened proceedings with a short speech! iji which he.extended a hearty welcome to all new members. He mentioned, some of the coming activities of tlia. cercle, commenting specially on the ije^d lor new members. He leferred to .tlie loss jthat the cercle had sustained in t]|e irecent deaths of two of its oldest ihemb'ei% Mis. R. B. Smythson and Mrs. KS Marshall. A talk-on "La Provence et le poete Mistral"' was given by M. F. Bouillet, and '^ater lie introduced his comedy in o'nd act,, "La Negvesse" with a few interesting words. Sir. Miles took the part of; M. ; .' Potiehon, Miss C. Smythson of Mme.; Potichon, and M. Balliam that of Flambardet. The playlet was much appreciated1 by the audience. " ■ .-Mme.'
