SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.
Yesterday's disturbance passed rapidly eastwards last evening, but a secondary has since developed and Is advancing on to southern New Zealand. High north-west winds gave place to south-westerlies at many places in the night, but py tills morning winds were again mainly north-westerly about and south of Cook Strait. Except on the east cnast of the North Island, fairly general rain was experienced yesterday and last night. Heavy rain occurred at a few places in the western portion of the South Island, while east of the main range the falls were only light and scattered. The n'eather generally was unsettled and .squally, but by this morning winds had become less strong and conditions had greatly improved.
