FAVOURITE UNDER CLOUD
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Bay. Eain overnight did not affect tho track at Ellerslie this morning, the going being goocVand some smart times were recorded by Avondale candidates. On the course proper, Sir Val ran six furlongs in lmiu 19 2-3 sec, and Wee Pat beat Kilmuir over five furlongs in lmin 3 4-asec. Mahkill and My Money sprinted half a mile in 52 l-ssec. Rapper beat Lady Lucas easily over five furlongs in lmin 4 l-ssec, the first two furlongs taking 24 2-osee. Grand Spirit ran seven furlongs alone in lmin 32 l-ssee, and pulled'up well. Psychologist went a mile in lmin 44 4-ssec, tho first half in 49 3-ssce. Manawhenua beat Tetrarchate over five furlongs in lmin 4 4-ssee, doing it comfortably. ' After running the first half-mile in 49 l-ssec, Chief Cook completed seven furlongs in lmin 30 2-sse.c. He carried a lightweight and went from a moving start. Roman Mascot was sent a mile, with Marchette to assist her over the last six furlongs, and she ran the first halfmile in Cl 1-uscc, and traversed the mile in lmin 4G 4-ssec. Marchette, who picked up badly, ran home in lmin 20sce, and was going nicely at tho finish. Blanford was holding Miss Lulu safely at the finish of a similar task in lmin 48 4-ssec, the first half-mile in 5- 2-uscc. United and Golden Spahi were first out after breakfast, slipping over six furlongs in lmin 19 l-ssec after traversing the first three furlongs in 39sec. Thera was little between them at the finish, and both were doing their work in good style. Landlubber jumped off at the mile, and after running the first half-mile in 51 2-ssee, covered the full distance in lmin 44 4-ssec. This was a good effort. • On the tan Taneriri worked steadily over a couple of rounds, but was not going better than half-pace. This horse has done little fast work lately and can hardly bo ready to run out a mile and a quarter yet. L'Allegro, after going fast over the early part of a round, registered 2min 2 2-ssee for the full distance, the last six furlongs in lmin 30 2-ssec, but he was easing up at the end. Master Brierly, who has been the ruling favourite fo.r the Foley Memorial on Saturday, may not start, as he has not been feeding well since Ellerslie.
