EXCHANGE QUESTION
INDEMNITY LIABILITY
IMPORTERS' ATTITUDE
At a largely-attended general. meeting of the Wellington Importers' Association, at which the president (Mr. Edwin Salmond) presided, held iii the Chamber of Commerce Hall last night, the following resolution was unanimously passed:— ■ ■ That the Wellington Importers' Association endorses the attitude of the New Zealand Importers' Federation in its unswerving opposition to the Government's reckless exchange policy and approves of the federation's published statements made on behalf^of the business community of this country as a protest against governmental procedure which is disorganising business and undermining public confidence. Further, that official attempts to withhold details of obligations to-tho banks under the Exchange Indemnity Act until the end of the year will only add to tho uncertainty felt by the entire community, and, as the public has an unquestioned right to know the exact position at all times, , this association urges tho Government to issue full details, so that it will bo possible for citizens to judge tho full effects of the utterly unwarranted and clearly damaging policy of inflated exchange.
