ANNUAL RACE FOR CUP
EASTER SATURDAY EVENT
The t annual- race ;for the Mercantile Marine Cup is to be rhelc[ in Wellington, oa Easter Saturday, in conjunction "with the Sea Scouts'regatta. The trophy was presented in 1927 by; the New Zealand Shipping Company; the Federal Company, the Shaw,.. Savill, arid Albion Company; and the Commonwealth. and'; Dominion Line for competition amongst the crews of overseas ships,' the boats used being eight-oared whalers. If the wind is from the ebuth the course will;'be from the band rotunda in Oriental Bay to the Clyde Quay Wharf, and in the event of a northerly from the Pipitea Wharf to the Clyde Quay Wharf. • Last year the cup was won by the C. and D. Line motor-ship Port Alma. The vessels which should be in Wellington' on Easter. Saturday to take part in the race are the Shaw, Savill steamers Mahana and Kia Ora, the C. and D. Line'steamer Port Curtis, and the New "Zealand Shipping Company's 'motor-chip Kangitata. It is ■ possible that; the Federal * steamer Somerset and; the New 'Zealand: Shipping Company's. Otaki ■ will' also be in.-port o% that day. The cup;-will be presented aft the Tobms' of • the 'British Sailors' ■ Societjy 57 Cuba Street, on- Saturday evening.
