PACERS AND TROTTERS
NOTES. FROM HUTT PARK
(By "The Eagle.") ' - The course proper at Hutt Park # \va« open on Thursday and Satiirday morning last, aud trainei's with horses engaged at forthcoming meetings took the oppor* tunity to give their charges fast work on the grass, which is in good order. On Saturday ..■ morning, Glenrossia (Thomas) and David MeElwyn (Pringle) covered a fast two miles in company, finishing together. Glenrossie, who is engaged at the Metro* politan Club's Meeting at Addington, i« to proceed south on Wednesday night, in charge of J. Pringle/ who will-drive him in his engagements. Since running second in the New Zealand Trotting Cup last November, Glenrossie's performances have been disappointing, • chiefly owing to his failure to begin smartly in his races, but a repetition of Jiis New Zealand Cup effort would make him hard to dispose of iv the Easter Handicap from 3Cyds. Derby Thorpe, who is now being worked at the trotting gait, gave a good showing over a mile and a half, being accompanied by the pacers Silver Berry; and the Wrack—Noiseless gelding. Since winning the Ladies' Bracelet at Ashhurst last mouth as a pacer, Derby Thorpe ha«i been working as a trotter, nnd is engaged in this class of events -ab the llawera Meeting at Easter, where hi 3 hardest opponents appear to be the Ash' hurst winners Autumn Lv and Sphinx. L. 0. Thomas will himself make the trip to Kawera with David 3lcl£lwyn «n<J Derby Thorpe, i . ~ Blue and Gold, alone, coicred two miles. Hemlock Ilero (Don Nyhan) and a Maxei gin gelding gave, a nice display of pacing. The former waal nominated for Hawera, but is now unlikely to make the trip, and Will probably be reserved for the AVangm nui Meeting towards the cud of thej month. - ■ .. ' Max Havoc, alone, covered one mile andj a half. The Waitoa Handicap at Te Arokia on! Saturday saw the first two-year-old. to make its debut in a race in the norths this season, in the shape of Chancellor, byj Peterwah—Black Gold, a pupil o£ the successful northerner, F. J. Smith. -Black! Gold, the dam of Chancellor, is a fulli sister to Gold Jacket, who won the Audi* land Trotting: Cup in 1928 atad 1929. •. a■ Although only nine' horses, have beei< Entered'for the Champion Trotters' Han« <]icap, to be run on the second "day o£ thai Metropolitan Trotting Club's Eastei? Meeting, it promises to provide one of .tlia most interesting races of the" carnival. The distance of the event is Vk miles, with a 3.24 limit. Included in the norn« inationg'is Louis Bjngen, who willhavd to win on the first (day to qualify -him to start in -the Champion Handicap,-as hia present assessment is slower than- the 3.24 required. Hia trainer, E. - Townley, is evidently an optimist.• Stanley' T._ JiaS been showing great form in his training of late, and if in the right mood on tha day will bo hard to "beat, though Wrackler, Pelerwah, and Olive' Nelson are inora consistent performers. Trampfast, 4 champion oC a couple of seasons backj if also engaged.
