PRUDENTIAL'S PROGRESS
The annual accounts of the Prudential Assurance Company, London, for 1932 show that assets have increased by £7,900,982 to £263,694,842. These figures do:not fully reflect the progress made during the year, as, had it not been for the fact that £7,250,000 of the investments reserves have been applied towards writing down the book values.of certain holdings, -the advance in assets would have been ~£ 15,150,982. The increase for 1931 Was £44,843,493. „„ ■,„,„« Income from all sources was £2,15d/7<il> higher at £48,685,145. The surplus from life business, including £389,268 brought forward, amounted to £9,931,441, of which £3,343,167 relates to ordinary branch and £ 6,586,274 : to industrial branch; and £2,700,000 "is made available by the release of contingency funds no longer required for the purpose :for which .they were set aside. . New assurances in the ordinary branch amounted' fa £19,274,723. and. premiums ■received were. £12,876,892.. Total funds in force (inclusive of bonuses) in this section are now £216,781,693. In the industrial -branch premiums .received were £19,133,362, an increase of £329,074. and the total sum assured is £503,421,139. Claims during the' year aggregated £22 566 356.- ■ ' - The expense ratios in both life branches have been reduced, that in the industrial section having fallen to 24.23 per cent., a new low record.
