Northcrofi, D.5.0., V.D., of Auckland, has been, appointed Judgo-Advqeate-General to the New Zealand Military Forces with, the rank of colonel. He succeeds 'Mr. Justice Ee'ed, who has relinquished Tiis appointment as Judge-Advocate-General, a post he had held since the war years. The appointment is also announced o£ Lieut.-Colonel F, L. G. West, V.D., of. Auckland, as Deputy Judge-Advocate-General, a position formerly held byj. Colonel Northcroft. Lieut.-Colonel West has been legal staff officer attached to the Northern Command and, his promotion will necessitate a further appointment. "On the motion of the Mayor , (Mr. W. T. Strand) the Lower Hutt Borough! Council last evening passed a motion oC sympathy with the widow of the lata Mr. A. S. Bush, who for seven years was the Lower Hutt Borough Engineer. Mr. Strand said the council had greatly, esteemed tho services of Mr. Bush, who was a strong man of outstanding ability and character. Councillors had not always seen eye to eye with the engineer, but Mr. Bush had always been; a gentleman and had forgotten any differences of opinion. The works, he had carried out in the borough would stand for many generations as" a memorial to his ability. Mr. , Allen Wcllbrock, of Christ;'" church, has been awarded an exhibition! entitling him to a' minimum of twoi years' tuition at the Eoyal College; of Music, London. Mr. Wellbrock is a double L.A.8., having obtained his diploma for the organ in 1930, at the ago of 16 years, and for the piano in 1032, and it .is for the latter performance .that" the exhibition has been awarded. While still a pupil of St. Andrew's College, Christchurch, he* was appointed organist and choirmas* ter of Durham Street Methodisti Church, which position ho at present holds. He was born in Invercargill in 1914, and his mother —neo Miss Dorothy Browning, a, pupil of Mr* Charles Gray—was awarded a similar exhibition in 1910.
