GROCERS' DISPUTE
PARTIAL SETTLEMENT
MATTERS FOR THE COURT
Agreement on most of the clauses proposed for- a new Wellington grocers' award was reached today when the Conciliation Council proceedings initiated last _ month were resumed. The clauses " not agreed to were those relating to the employment of chain store branch managers on Suuday, proportion of youths to adult workers, and payment of first-class fares when travelling on transfer. It was unanimously decided to refer the dispute to the Arbitration Court for settlement of the outstanding matters. The sole objectors to the clauses referred to the Court were chain store organisations. •: The clauses upon which there was com-j plete agreement varied little from the provisions of the old award. The wages are to be the same as in the old award, less 10 per cent. ' , The Conciliation Commissioner was Mr. E. W. F.. Golins. The Master Grocers' Association was represented •by Messrs. A. L. Brown, H. Wardell, J. F. .Turnbull, E. A. Allaway (chain stores),- and M. J. Reardon (agent), and Mr. W. J. Mountjoy acted as agent for the chain stores.. The-employees' assessors were Messrs. W. H. Coombe, J. Duncan, J. B. Paton; and ■S. Butcher, with; Mr. A. WV Croskery as agent. . , _. !. ■ A motion of sympathy with-. Mr.- 8.. Sutherland, the original' representative of the chain stores, who had been injured in an aeroplane accident, was carried unanimously. . ,
