CORRESPONDENCE

ACCLIMATISATION AIMS

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Mr. Leigh Hunt's letter in your issue o£ March 30, 1933, gives considerable food for thought. He gives a sketch of the constitution of his council, and one cannot but admit that it is thoroughly representative. The interrelation of the various forms of life has long been realised by the acclimatisation societies, and efforts have been made frequently to nullify the blind individualism of those bodies, governmental and otherwise, who are so obsessed by their one bigoted viewpoint that they lose sight of all the general issues involved. . , The system of acclimatisation societies has been built up as an association of voluntary bodies working for the good of wild life, and it can. be confidently stated that there is no single object in the aims of the societies as a whole; that should be in conflict with the principles of any of the1 bodies represented on the WildLife Control Council. If the Wild Life . Control Council can achieve one thing, and that is' to remove 'the present multi-dc-■ partmental control; it will have done a great thing for the good of this country. The acclimatisation societies have the organisation to exercise control, arid any assistance that can be given by such bodies as the Wild Life Control Council io render that control more effective will be most heartily welcomed. —I am, etc., • G. F. V. ANSON, Chairman, Wellington Acclimatisation Society.
