YOUNG BIRD SHOW
The Palmerston North I'oung Bird Show attracted- a number of entries frbni all over tho Wellington districtj and breeders spent a very pleasant day. Entries totalled over 400, and the chief poultry classes were well filled. Messrs. C. F. Purton, G. N. Bell, W. Grey, and 11. HearfieUr made the awards in Iho various sections. Mr. T. . Bruce, tho chiof worker for the local club, carried off tho cup for best bird with an excellent Minorca pullet, whilst a Wellington visitor (Mr. W. N. Laws) took premier honours in the fancy section with a Buff Rock cockerel. The Black Orpingtons in both utility and fancy sections were better than usual, and might have been tho chief winners. The pigeon, canary, and commercial rabbit sections were well filled. The general opinion appeared to bo that this show should be held a little earlier in the year, and certainly many of the exhibits were in full lay, and will bo too advanced for the main shows which start in June. ' Situated so centrally, Palm-' erston North has <?vety advantago for a poultry show with tho cream of our poultry stock, and the main show is always the leading exhibition of the year for "the North Island.-',
