PARLIAMENTARIAN'S OFFER

Mr. H. K. Hales, M.P. for Henley, has offered to present the House of Commons with a new clock,- to be placed where members could see it. Thus they would know how long they had been talking. He stated that tho First Commissioner of Works, Mr. Ormsby-Gore, was taking the matter tip with the Lord Chamberlain, whose permission is necessary. Mr. Hales said that the need of a new clock was £rst suggested to him by the interminable length of many of the speeches. "Members," ho continued, "often hesitate to turn round to look at the present clock in the Gallery. I think ,a new clock would speed up Parliamentary business. "
