N.Z. GOLF COUNCIL
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The monthly meeting o£ the council of the New Zealand Golf Association (Inc.) was held at the secretary's office at Wellington, yesterday, when there were present Sir Alexander Roberts (chairman), and Messrs. W. E. A. Gill, E. Page, A. R. Sclanders, and G. 0. Button (secretary). The following new clubs were elected members'* of the ' association:—Clevedon Golf Club, Clevedon, Auckland; .North End Golf Club> Timaru; Pahiatua Golf Club,-,- Pahiatua; , Waimairi Beach Golf Club* Chr,istchurch. ; Letters were received from the New South Wales Golf. Council and the Victorian Golf Association, both expressing regret at' being, unable to send teams for this year's ' Kirk-Windeyer Cup competition. ■ • * '' It was decided to> leave* over the completion of conditions of play in the open ' and amateur championships until the June meeting. A letter Was rend from an affiliated club advising that their annual, general meeting had unanimously supported the recommendation of the delegates at the annual meeting of the Golf Association, to the effect that qualifying rounds be reverted. to for the amateur championship, 32 to qualify and the auto; jnatic draw to be adopted. Correspondence with the hon. secretary of the Xew Zealand Golf Greenkeepers' Association, Mr. Arthur Biel, Invercargill, was read, and it was decided to strongly recommend to clubs ,that they should endeavour to induce their greenkeepers to join up with this organisation, which seems likely to do excellent work in the interests of greenkeepers and of clubs. Correspondence on greenkeeping research was read. After discussion, it was decided to come to a decision at the next meeting of . the council as to whether it is prepared to incur any further expenditure in this connection.
