WELCOME TO LADY GRAY

CITIZENS' DAY NURSERY

A small but happy function took place yesterday morning when the committee of the Citizens' Day Nursery gave a tea to welcome Lady Gray on her return to New Zealand. Mrs. Forbes and Mrs. Hislop (hon. vice-pre-sidents) were present, and also the committee. The president, Mrs. N. G. Eeid, made a brief speech, welcoming Lady Gray back to New Zealand, and to the committee room. A little later they hoped to have some account cf her travels, particularly in regard to similar work carried on in Britain. On behalf of the committee, Mrs. Beid congTatulated Lady Gray on the honour bestowed upon her husband, and hoped they would have many years to enjoy it. .. '

Lady Luk& referred to Lady- Gray's long association with, and large share in the founding of the nursery work in Wellington. She hoped that Lady Gray would be pleased with the work done in her absence.

Lady Gray, in reply, said that she was much touched by the spontaneous kindness and goodwill of all, and ste earnestly hoped that gradually younger members would take theplaces of those who had carried the burden hitherto, but that, above all, the work should go on.

Lady Gray was presented with a posy from the president and from the staff and children. A posy was also presented .to Mrs. Forbes, and the room was charmingly decorated with flowers given by Miss Townsend.
