When, the express arrived from Auckland at 3 a.m. the passengers were transferred to three motor buses and several taxis' and were immediately sent to the Kakahi subsidence, where they joined the waiting express train, which had brought passengers from the south. The north-bound passengers were thpa transferred to buses and taxis and sent to Taumarurmi to join the express train waiting here. Two trips had to be made each way to cope with the number of passengers travelling. One bus broke down and caused some delay. The north-bound travellers began to reach Taumacunui at about 6 a.m., and the train left for the north at 8.45 a.m.
