DETACHABLE COLLARS

A NEW ECONOMY

The detachable fur collar has many advantages that escape the casual observer (states a writer in the London "Daily Mail.") It is often regarded simply as an economy, and I have beard many women scoffing at the idea of taking the collar from ono coat and tacking it to another every time a change of outfit is required. No tacking,, of course, is entailed in a properly! planned fur collar these days. Many leading dressmakers who. are now preparing their spring collections are featuring the separate fur collar. This can be anything from a small Peter Pan affair of short-haired skins to an enormous choker of fox. *

All, however, seem to bo .treated in the same very practical way. They are lined with velvet or shirred chiffon of exactly the same shade as the fur, and have two large loops worked at the fastening points through which a long straight tie of the same material as the dress is passed and tied in the very fashionable bow of the moment. Two metal rings can be substituted for the loops if preferred. One fur collar will serve for any coat, dress, or costume if a long tie of the same material is made to match each outfit. Where ready-made clothes are concerned it is not always possible to get a matching tie. In such cases a ribbon, velvet, or taffeta bow matching either the fur or the dress will do almost as well.

The same collar —a light beige fox one^—may be worn with a checked tweed dress in shades of brown, amber, and beige, and, with a dark nigger velvet afternoon- frock. On the afternoon dress, the collar is fastened at the back.

One of the advantages of this device is that the fur collar—always a very decorative item of the toilette—can, be left on-the gown when the coat is removed.
