AFTERNOON PARTY

MRS. PEARCE AT HOME

Miss Nelle Scanlan was the guest of honour at a delightful tea party given yesterday afternoon by Mrs. W. S. Pearee at her honie in Hobson Street, where the rooms were decorated with charmingly arranged flowers. In the drawing-room hydrangeas, African marigolds, and a large bowl of mixed yellow and mauve flowers were very eSective, and on the dining table, where tea was set, was a centre bowl of mixed flowers in varying tones of pink. .■■■>.

During the afternoon songs were sung by Mrs. Ginn, Mme. Merlin, Mrs. Pearce, and Miss Alison Pearce, and Miss' Gladys Watkins played piano solos.

Mrs. Pearce ivore a frock and coatee of vintage red heavy silk laeeV Her daughter, Miss Alison Pearce, was in floral georgette in tones of green. Miss Scanlan wore a black tailored coat with epaulette sleeves, over a black frock with yoke of cream lace, and a small black toque. Her sister, Mrs. Eodgers (Palmerston North), who is her guest, was in a cigar brown ensemble, the plain coat being worn over a patterned frock, and a brown hat. The guests included Mrs. G. W. Forbes, Mrs. J. G. Coates, Mrs. H. D. Crawford, Mrs. Vogel, Lady Beauchamp, Mrs. G. Shirtcliffe, Mrs. J. B. MacEwan, Mrs. W. Young, Mrs. Ginn, Mme. Merlin, Mrs. HV Nathan, Mme. A. Nihotte, Mrs. C. Malfroy, Signora Formichella, Miss Butts, Miss Miles, Mrs. F. Clayton, Mrs. J. Findlay, Mrs. Reading, Mrs. Sproule (Napier), Miss G. Matheson (Auckland), Miss Joan Williams (Masterton), Miss G. Watkins.
