CLOTHING NEEDED

A NEWTOWN PROBLEM

The Newtmvn Relief Committee draws attention to the clothing drive to be held in Newtown on ; Saturday. The committee has been quietly carrying on an extensive work during the past two years, but. the need of the people has not diminished—indeed, it threatens to become greater than ever with the approach of winter. Two hundred and thirty families are now on its lists, and from, the depot two hundred' families receive food weekly and eighty are given a daily supply o'i milk. i'his. is made possible by grants from the Mayor's Kelief Fund and by jienerous gifts from the local butchers and bakers. ■

As the committee is entirely dependent upon the kindly interest of friends, it has organised a clothing drive to take place on Saturday, commencing at ? o clock. riie area to be covered is from aewtown Park and Waripori Street to John Street and Hankey Street, from Coromandel Street to Hanson Street, and trom lasman :Stfeet to the Belt. If incn.ls will leave parcel* at their front doors, motorists, with the help of Scouts', a-iII collect them. Milne, convener, St. James' Manse, Ixewtown, or.by ringing telephone 244J3 arrangements can be made for the collecting of gitts.
