BEER BILL NEARLY THROUGH
CONGRESS BUSY

President Koosevelt is expected by his close advisers to send a message to Congress within the next few days recommending an emergency unemployment relief fund of 500,000,000 dollars for direct grants to the States. The final enactment of the Beer Bill became a matter of hours on Monday as the Congressional confreres agreed to legalise beer of a 3.2 per cent, alcoholic content by -weight. The Senate passed the Beer Bill on Monday. The conference between the Houses had thrown out the Senate amendment limiting the alcoholic content to 3.05' per cent., but agreed to retain the Senate amendment permitting wine and fruit juices of the same alcoholic-content. They rejected 'the Borah amendment to prohibit the sale of beverages to children under sixteen years.
The House had adjourned until Tuesday, so there cannot be complete and final action until then.
President Boosevelt on Monday signed the Economy Bill.
The House on Monday passed and sent to the Senate a Bill which would let State banks and trust companies borrow from Federal Reserve banks.
The Administration's Farm Relief Bill was approved on Monday by the House Agriculture Committee.
