KNOX COLLEGE

NEW MATRON APPOINTED

Miss Catherine E. Goodall, secretary of the Now Zealand Trained Nurses"' Association, Auckland, has been appointed matron of Knox College, Dunedin, in succession to Miss C. M. Barr. Miss Goodall, who was selected from more than 90 applicants for the position, was borh at Kaikoura, and has received an excellent grounding in domestic management. She completed her course of general nursing in Christchurch, and was for some time in charge of the infectious diseases hospital under the Christchurch Hospital Board, with 50 patients and nursing and domestic staffs. She was sister in charge at the general hospital in Palmerston North, and was previously in the same iiosition at Wellhouse Hospital in Hertfordshire, England, in 1921. For two years, 1926 to 1928, she was head matron at King's College, Auckland, a secondary school for boys with 150 boarders, and there had charge of the commissariat and housekeeping departments, and full control of L all the domestic staffs, including the laundry staff, in all about 18.

After leaving King's College Miss Goodall spent some .time in England, and took a year's course in postgraduate lectures, and since then has been employed in private nursing and in secretarial work for the Trained Nurses' Association. She has, a" thorough knowledge of dietetic principles) and of all branches of cooking,' etc., and is the holder of a first-class certificate for plain cooking. Her application, was supported by very high commendations from Miss Thurston, formerly matron of the Christchurch General Hospital, and matron in chief of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, Miss Taylor, formerly, matron of the Auckland General Hospital, Mr. Major, formerly headmaster of King's College, and a member of the Board of Governors of that institution, and from the present headmaster, the Rev. H. K. Archdall.

Miss Ban1 acceded to the request of the Knox College Council to remain in office until the end of April in order that the new matron may be intimately associated with her in the duties of her new position. Miss Goodall will come into residence in the matron's quarters of Knox College in the middle of April.
