COTTESMORE SCORES

ONLY TRENTHAM VICTOR

The well-bred Hunting Song four-year-old, Cottesmore, who has given, his connections much worry during the last twelve months, won a well-merited victory in the Belmont Handicap, the final event at the meeting. He was always prominent alongside Mobile in the lead, and he drew out over the last furlong to score by nearly a length from Pesehiera, with Mobile tiring half a length away.

The winner provided Trentham stables with their only success during the day. He had his first race following a spell on Friday, finishing a creditable third as a result of a fast run through from the Iback, and Saturday's improvement was Iwell anticipated, though he was still at useful prices on both machines in a fine betting pool.

Pesehiera, the both-way favourite, was in the middle of the field as they crossed over on to.the course proper, and he came home strongly.'. He' is an improving three-year-old colt who may win good races later on. A feature of his pedigree is the close inbreeding to the famous Paraffin branch of the No. 1 Bruce Lowe family. Mobile again showed himself possessed of plenty of pace, but he once again just failed to see the distance right out. He was stopping at the close and just re-. v tamed third placing from Shining Gold and Bonnie Vale. Shining Gold was always well placed iii the running, but Bonnie Vale came fast from some distance back. Granado looked a, place prospect most of the way, but finally tired into a poor sixth place. None of the others ever seriously caught the eye. Palace failed to begin and was always at the rear. Bay Area-was left at the start, and Ramuna ran off the course at the crossing to the straight..
