"\yESTPOET, March 18. The final of the Mahar Cup competition between Marlborough,. Motueka, and Bui- | l'er eventuated today. Before the pi:ogriimme was half through rain set in and marred what promised to be a very successful finish to an interesting series of contests. Motueka, which competed at Marlborough and Motueka, failed to send a team to Westport, with the result that the finals were fought between Bulled and Marlborough, the former winning the cup for the season with 150 points to Marlborough's 109. Features of the programme were outstanding performances by Patchett and Bartlett (Marlborough), and Hardie (Buller) in the sprints and "middle distances, Hill (Buller) in the distance events, and A. Caldwell (Buller) in the cycling events. • The results were as follows: — 100 yards: Bartlett 1, Patchett (M.) 2, Hardie (B.) 3. Time, 10 2-ssec. Mile flat: Hill 1, Twamley 2, Phipps 3 (all Buller). Time, tain 48 3-ssec. Half-mile cycle: A. Caldwell i, S. Johnson (B.) 2, Robinson (M.) 3. 100 yards women's race: B. Mitchell 1, J. Eiley 2, W. Vincent 3 (all Buller). Time, 12sec. 220 yards: Patchett 1, Hardie 2, Bartlett 3. Time, 23see. v 880 yards: Hill (B.) 1, Brennan (M.) 2, Twamley (B.) 3. Mile cycle: A. Caldwell 1, Watt 2, H. Johnson 3 (all Buller). 440 yards: Patchett 1, Hardie 2, Eobinson (B.) 3. Relay: Buller (Hill, Hardie, Eobinson, Holder), 1; Marlborough (Petersen, Patehett, Bartlett, Brooks), 2. Men's high, jump: Keats and Mclntosh (both M.), each s£t 2in, 1; Pablecheque (B.), 2.
