INSTITUTE AND OLD BOYS

Good batting by nearly every member o£ the Institute team gave them a useful start against Old Boys on the Hutt Recreation Ground. Only three of the eleven failed to reach double figures, and the side's total was |313. The innings lasted from 2.10 ' p.m. until just before 6 ■ p.m. All the early batsmen did well, hitting with an enterprise that sent the total steadily upwards. Duffy went out early, though with a sterling 22 to his credit, and Heard and Owen, the next batemen, put on 91 for the second wicket, which fell for 129. Their individual scores were 57 and 41 respectively, the former's* being top score for the day. Wareham hit 39, and Prince's '45 was the second best individual effort. Bilby helped the later stages of the innings along with a wellcompiled 39.

Bowling for Old Boys, Duncan did most of the work, and took five wickets for 87. ' ■ ■ ■

In the half-hour left after the end of Institute's innings, dv Chateau and Parsloe, by hurricane hitting, ran up 63 for the loss of no wickets. In the last few overs Parsloe hit seven 4's in succession. Details:—

Second Grade.

Institute 127 (McLean 41) and 13 for one wicket, met Wellington College, 73 (Raibird 18, Bradley 17, Carter 10 not out). Bowling: For Institute, Algar took four wickets for 9, and Brabin three for 30. For College: Quirk took three for 31, Steel two for 25, and Carter two for 15. Junior A. Stop Out, 503 (Macklin 55, Dunn 71, R. Liddicoat 49, M. Liddicoat 19, Lee 12, Bale 31, T. Moore 127, including 25 fours and 2 sixes, J. Moore 105 not out, with"2o fours and 2 sixes), met Wellington 17 for three wickets. Bowling: For Wellington: Rose took three wickets for 103, Morris two for 86, and Ongley three for 110. Midland (South Wellington) 372 (Gell 104, Kennedy 58, Hester 50, G. Bolt 38, Perry 24 not out, H. Bolt 15, Lye 13, Petley 11) met Hutt. Bowling for Hutt, O'Callaghan took two wickets' for 27, McMichael two for 82.

Institute, 161 (Eade 33, Collinge 29), met Midland, 215 (Baldwin 34, McLein 27, H. Hatch.26 not out, Griffen 24, Alp'en 21). Bowling: For Institute, Bringle took four for 90, McCallumtwq for 42, Ramsay, two

for 36. For Midland: McLean secured six for 55, and Baldwin three for 39.

Junior Bl

•Wellington College, 243 (Nelson 40 Joplin 59, Mackay 39, Beard 61), met Petone East, 87 for two wickets (Parrant 40, Green 32 not out). Bowling: For Petone East, House took two wickets for 56, Parrant two for 73, Heazlewood four for 56; for College, Mackay secured two for 36.

Kaiwarra, 415 (K. Kelly 248, Nickless 47, G. Kelly 40), met Technical College Old Boys, three for 62 (Gilbert 29 not out). Bowling: For Technical Old Boys Clunie took four wickets for 132, and Gilbert one for 16. ' For Kaiwarra; Willis secured three for 26.

Stop Out, 152 (McPhee 42, Mclvor 21, Scott 20, Boyton 18 not out, Kemp 12, and Mason 10), met Hutt, 133 for seven wickets (Hobbs 54, Aldersley 13, Popplewell 12 not out, Thorne 11, and Hoare 10). Bowling: For Hutt, Hunt took five wickets for 35. Junior 82. University, 170 (Struthers ' 43, Turnbull 40, Campbell 23 not out, Godfrey 20, Osborn 15) and 22 for four wickets (Osborn 10), me t Seatoun, 105 (McGirr 33, Dukes 17, Taylor 15 not out). Bowling: For University, Gbdfrey took eight wickets for 34, Struthers one for 24. For Seatoun: Taylor took four for 48 and one for 11, Edmonds three for 74 and one for 9, McGirr two for 22 and two for 0. Junior C. Johnsonville, 161 (Law 47 not out, Davies 27, Mather 18, Sinclair 17, Moore 16), met Old Boys, 83 for three wickets (Bradley 28 not out, Cooper 20, Benge 17 not out).
