IDLE AND DISORDERLY
A sentence of three months' imprisonment, was imposed by Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court today on Norman Williams, a labourer, aged 23, who pleaded guilty to a charge of being idle and disorderly in that he had insufficient lawful means of support. Senior-Sergeant Dempsey said that in February last the accused was supplied with a Territorial uniform. He wore it constantly, and represented himself to be a member of the Permanent Artillery. Lately he had been going down to the wharves and obtaining meals on board ships.
Spain has discovered a novel way of dealing with burglars. Shopkeepers have been given permission by the authorities to install in their shops a series of special alarm signals. When the alarm bell rings pistol shots are fired from different corners connected with, the main alarm signal.
