MR. CHARLES HAIN
The announcement of the death of Mr. Charles Ham., , superintendent at .the-D.I.C, will be received with deep regret by*a very large section of the community. Mr. Hainihad been confined to bed for some weeks, and was removed to a private hospital nine days ago for an exploratory operation. His condition, was found to be hopeless, and he gradually weakened and expired last night. Born in Eallarat, Vie., in IS6B, Mr. Ham eamo to New Zealand 31 years ago to join Messrs. George and 'Kersley, and managed the Wanganui branch of -that firm for some years. "When the D.I.C. purchased the George and Kersley business Mr. Ham became superintendent of the "Wellington branch of the D.I.C, and in that capacity was one of the best known and most higlily regarded men in the city. A man of simple integrity and unselfish character, he was held in warm affection by the staff he controlled: In hi§ younger days ho was a keen cricketer, and was latterly a prominent and popular member of the Victoria Bowling Club, which he represented at Dominion tournaments on several occasions. Mr. Ham was a member of the Taranaki Street I Methodist congregation. He' leaves a [widow and one son, Mr. C. H. Ham, [well known in University circles. ■
.The funeral will leave the Mortuary Chapel, Taranaki Street, on Wednesday at 10.30 a.m.
