"We were fortunate enough to beat; them but, of course, they are splendid cricketers." was the only comment oa the Australian tour made by Mr.' P: F. Warner, co-manager- of the English team, in a brief interview -with a "Post" Teporter. He thought that the financial Tesult of the tour would be satisfactory, although they would lose a little money owing to the adverse exchange rate.
The visitors were delighted with the warmth of the welcome given them on arrival at Wellington,; and they greatly appreciated the compliment of being received by the Prime Minister and other members of the Government, said Mr. Warner.
Asked to comment on.the reception given to jNTew Zealand teams in England, Mr. Warner said that the 1931 team had been very popular and had played exceedingly well. "They gave us a great fright at Lord's," he remarked with' a smile. "They nearly beat us, you know."
Mr. Warner said that it was thirty, years since he had been in New Zealand as captain of Lord Hawke's team, which played first in the Dominion before going to Australia. All " the members of the present team were ia good health, except for minor bruises and sprains, and- were looking forward to enjoyable matches in New Zealand,
