A beer bottle was the weapon used, and the assailant is not known. The victim was Miss Molly McLachlan, aged -2'S years, who resides in Cargili Street. She was walking through the Belt to meet a.friend when the man suddenly appeared and struck her ou the head. He then attempted to throttle her, but being disturbed by a passin" motor-ear, he threw her over a bank" and rushed away.

Dazed and shocked by the attack, and bleeding from the head, Miss McLachlan made her way to a nearby house. A doctor was called in, and he inserted two stitches in her head. Today she is suffering from shock, but her condition is giving no concern. Whe- the police arrived they found the beer bottle on the spot.
