THE TENNIS VISIT

SPECIAL COURT PREPARED

(Special to "The Evening Post.") NELSON, March 16. Special work has been undertaken at the- Nelson Tennis Club's courts this week to cater for the exhibition games by the visiting team of New Zealand players on Saturday. A very good court has been laid out on the site usuaily occupied by the Nos. 1 and 2 courts. This arrangement has provided a particularly good piece of turf, and gives ample 11111----baek and jSpace on the side lines. Conaerning the difficulty of the B class broadensting stations as to the supply of gramophone records, 2ZR Nelson has not. yet gote off the air. An official of the Radio Club stated today that he was very hopeful that the difficulty regarding the supply of records would be got over as far as the local station is concerned. Negotiations to this end are still in progress.

The Wellington Aero Club's Waco machine, with accommodation for a pilot and three passengers, is due to arrive at Nelson on Monday morning to pick ut> J. Newman and D. Freeman, the Nelson representatives in the match to be played at Wellington with the M.C.C. The other seat has been taken by Miss Donaldson.

The committee of the Nelson Institute carried the following motion relative to the death of Dr. S. A. Lucas, I who was a member of the committee: — "The committee of the Nelson Institute desires to place on record its sense of loss it has sustained by the death of Dr. Lucas,- a colleague who took a keen interest in the management of the institute, and whose unfailing literary taste was of considerable assistance to the committee in the discharge of its duties." The committee's sympathy is being conveyed to Mrs. Lucas and the members of her family. ' .--.■>

Mr. D. Eekhoff, of the local branch of the Public Trust Office, who has been transferred to Wellington, leaves /Nelson tomorrow night. Botfr Mr. . and Mrs. Eekhoff have been prominent in musical and dramatic circles during the four years they have been here, and have made many friends. Last week the Mayor of Nelson (Mr. W. J. Moffatt) received a letter from his Excellency the Governor-General intimating that their Excellencies were donating a seat made from an old battleship, and asking that.it be placed on the top of the Zig-Zag—the favourite resort of their Excellencies within, the city boundary. The seat arrived from England this morning, and after being unpacked was taken to the Municipal Chambers meanwhile. The seat, which is some 10 or 12 feet in length, is.of pleasing design, and comfortable to rest on. It is built,, as a small plate states, of teak from H.M.S. Ganges. The makers were the Castles' Shipbreaking Company, London. The action of their Excellencies in providing the gift will be greatly appreciated by all who ascend "the lovely little pineclad hill," as his Excellency termed it.
