FREE AMBULANCE BOARD
FIRST MEETING HELD
The first meeting of the "Wellington Free Ambulance Board in its new building in Cable Street was held today. Mr. C. J. B. Norwood presided. The superintendent (Mr. F. Koffe) reported that during last month a total of 511 cases had been attended, an.d the ambulance cars had travelled a total distance of 4365, miles. Since the inception of the service 35,754 cases had been attended, and the milage covered was 355,053.. The honorary staff was on duty for 227 hours during the month. Arrangements in connection with an inspection of the building by the public next week were left to the superintendent. , "' ■
It was reported that the ladies' auxiliary intended to give a bridge party in the building next Wednesday evening, and that several other organisations of ladies were waiting their turn with similar functions. A. dance was also planned.
Mr. Norwood expressed appreciation of the action of members in presenting him with a gold key at the opening ceremony, and referred to the harmonious relations which had always existed round the board table and' the successful result of their efforts to provide a building worthy of the city. Mr. G. Mitchell paid a tribute to Mr. Norwood's leadership and outstanding services as president of the service.
The services of the building committee were warmly praised, Mr. Mitchell being especially commended on his activities.
