WHY NOT AN EXTENSION?

• Summer Time ends on Sunday, ftlany people will recollect this with regret and. wish that" an extension could be; made at least to Easter. •The weather is fine, and a half-hour more of glorious sunlight would be beneficial to all workers. Parliamerit, however, did not make the necessary legislative provision— not for lack of time, for time was wasted in the early part of the session. Even in the latter part some of the things which were done could have been omitted to allow a Summer Time'extensi'on bill to pass. But Parliament appears to have overlooked* the economic aspect of Summer .Time. It was as a saying measure that it was adopted by Great Britain and Continental countries during the war period. It was retained and made permanent for its health-giving results. There is no reason now to hinder complete adoption of the reform in New Zealand—no reason save the indifference or reluctance of , Parliament. An effort should be

made to overcome this. A correspondent today suggests that the movement should be led by the Chambers of Commerce and the Medical Association. We hope that the suggestion will be accepted, for we are convinced that once the • request were made either for an.extended period of Summer Time or the full hour there would be such a demonstration of public approval that Parliament would be persuaded to take notice. <
