WELLINGTON MEETING

GOOD FIELDS CARDED

TWO.YEAR.OLD SUPRE-

MACY ,

■ '-. Fields of the 'first quality have been drawn for. all events on the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting at Trentham tomorrow, and the riding is certain to be of a very high standard. The weather recently has been settled, and the outlook is propitious''for a. continuation, of the fine weather. The track, although it has been watered: for aweek past, -will be firm and very fast . (unless the unexpected should happen and heavy rain fall), and recent form-should• give a. satisfactory line in most events. The club is again distributing dividends . by . the win-and-plaee system, which ftroved so highly popular in January. The same apparatus, will be in use, and it should work successfully from the start at this -meeting, because the public are now thoroughly well acquainted with the new style, . Special railway service from Lambton to.the course is Advertised. Race trains leave at intervals from 10.15 a.m. till 11.26 a.m., with additional ordinary trains at 8.47 a.m., 9.55. a.m.,. and 12.15 p.m. Return fare to the course is ss, this includ- ■ ing' admission charge to course. On Saturday the additional ordinary trains will leave at 8.47, 9.55,11.51, 12.16, 12.48, and 1.20.. ... The following : reviews of-the fields are given:— ' RIMU HIGHWEIGHT. The recent form of several of the horses engaged in the ■ Rjmu Highweight Handicap has-been good, but only one horse has really performed above the average of the class, and that'is Gay Court. He has*-solid weight to carry, but he is fit and should prove up to it. If is his first appearance in -the type of race. Palace and Revision are in improving pair who should-, keep him busy. Chief Line struck * : solitary patch-of form,in: January, but a'-hard track may .'not assist him. Adventus has * likely outside chance. There trill be support for Gay Court (win "arid place),, and Palace and Revision. TRIAL PLATE. ■.The-Trial Plate, tun over seven furlongs, will-suit horses who can stick, and three-who have shown this ability are Bonnie Vale, Heather Glow, and Granado. Bonnie;Vale, who is from a half-sister by Kilbroney.toSasanof, came'from the back toiscore attractively at Wbodville recent' ly,;4ndin that effort she impressed as a much-improved mare- who was likely to ip on with it. ; The'Chokebore representative, Heather Glow,, has, twice recently' been-second at the distance, mid he has lieen well supported each time. Granado, whoiwas running on-third behind Heather. 1 Gjpw&t Dunedin, is~an older brother to Might who has shown promise at. several periods of his: career, '■ but a hard track i maynot .help him. Shining Gold, Miss i Hushabye, and Azure may also find thin distance to their liking. The public will support Bonnie.Vale (win and place), end Heather Glow and Miss Hushabye. ' ST. LEGER: STAKES. •V The final composition of the St. Leger Stakes a field is still uncertain, but with. La Moierne "engaged and a. sure starter the favourite'should be easy to-find. La Moderne has gone onthe right way since 6he won at Trentham in-January, and the Derbies have "shown that "she can stay. Sometimes-the St.-Legers are falsely run, but it does not look like this-occurring this year. Gold, Trail, it she has recovered fully from her recent indisposition; would read her most serious rival, and others who must be well considered are Tout le Mond, Rocket, and-Clangor. The betting may show the final fancy for Li' Moderns (win ■ and place), ; and Gold TTail and Tout le Mond. ,-.-.. CHAMPION TWO-YEAR-OLD PLATE. The Champion Two-year-old Plate, carry-ing-*'trophy valued at 150 guineas, is an Attractive new item on the day's programme, and its result may assist materially; in revealing the season's best juvenile. The Trentham-trained Dole has done everything right since he last raced," arid a colt of his "exceptional brilliance is going to take lots of heading, off. A big weight beat him in January, and he will Appreciate the 201b leis in his saddle tomorrow. , Solid opposition is. certain to be coming, from.. Princess Doreen, Red Manfred, and Diatomous, and there .are other smart: sorts engaged in Guarantee, Fracas, Golden Hair, and Gay Sheila. Red Manfred, Guarantee, and Fracas have previously won at Trentham. Good followings are assured for Dole (win and place), and Red Manfred and Diatomous. THOMPSON HANDICAP. ■ The customary very, even issue is offered by the Thompson Handicap, and the winner may come from any point of the acceptance. Inflation at his best would be hard to settle with 61b under weight-for-' age, but there is no certainty about him I at present, and an Awapuni report hints that,he may prefer the classic to this race. In view of. these, doubts one falls back on the topweight, Autopay, unques- j tionably the class horse in the field, not' at all badly handicapped, and as fit as ever he has been. He is just the brilliant type for such a race as this, and '• any ' horse who beats him home will, have to be good above an average year.. Among the. ethers' the toughest opposition may come from Cricket Bat, Ruling Light, Shatter, and Royal Bengal. Cricket .Bat, who was second to; Gay Court last year, has lately been galloping in great style, andvhe will have an army of friends. He has. often disappointed when most expected, but he is at ,-■ his best in the autumn. The other three in the past have raced well at Trentham. If the favoured; division is beaten the one to achieve such success may. come from Aw.aken, Assemble, Miladi, .and Prin- ■ cess-Argosy, who will all in any case have-good place following^. Perhaps-the final-hoist on the machines will .find the preference for. Autopay (win and place), and-Cricket Bat and Inflation (or Royal Bengal). ■ ■■ siLVERSTREAM HANDICAP. "^The-field for the Silverstream Handicap, though riot large, consists of many imprbving'haeks.who may not be far short of. good open-class, and they are likely to provide an iiteresting battle. The Chokebore stable, which won the race with Winsome Hirid-last-year, has two good entrants this year in Zeebrugge and Rebel Song (who race in different interests), and' the elect of them may be the public's pick. -Still the North Island should offer solid opposition with two Australian-bred g>ldings, Peschiera and March ■?Alone, and the former of these especially must go well at the distance. .Indeed, Pesehiera may. take quite a lot of beating. Speed also has -won., at a mile recently, and is in. excellent form. There will be good money for Pesehiera (win and place), and Zeebrugge (or -Rebel Song) and March Alone. .-.'■.'• •-..--■ /■ RAILWAY HANDICAP. With Autopay^ announced as a definite Thompson starter, a-firm favourite is almost certain to' be made of Golden Wing>, last year's winner, in the Railway Handicap, and in- spite of his big-weight, he thust go near repeating the, performance, for he is a better gelding at present than ever he-Aas been previously, or at least that, is the impression formed about him - in -his recent effort*. . The opponents that will oppose him ara of fairly even calibre, and there should be keen betting on the place machine among them.- Lordly Knight is assured of a strong following, and the ' Assemble-Kerbside bracket (if both start), Pomp, and Normandy will also have, plenty of admirers. The public will be with Golden Wings -■ .(.win and place), and Lordly Knight-and Normandy.

TINAKORI HANDICAP. the Tinakori Handicap does not look a havd race to win, but there is roam for a Surprise by one of the middlfrfancied division. Two who will be well supported are Might and Mobile, and it will surprise if they do not both go well, for they have lately raced consistently. Might continues to irtipr6ve, and may before long be racing in the best class. Mobile, a good winner at Dunediii, comes-north 'with a reputation it is not'possible to overlook. Then there are two other speedy sorts; in Chief Light-and Worship, who are both well bred and very ■ dangerous opponents on j their best days. Chief Liffht won at the January Meeting, but subsequently was twice beaten into fourth place at Dunedin. Palace (if reserved), Cottesmore, Eupator, and Jadatino also possess chances. The finalcall may: be for Might (win and place), and Mobile and Chief -Light. .-.■■':.. :
