Carterton Bible Society.
At the annual meeting of the Carterton branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society the following officers were elected:—President, Miss Catherwobd; vice-presidents, Mesdames Stent, Catherwood, Misses E. Luddell, and J. Monerieff; secretary, Bey. B. J. Liddle. During the year a sum of £25 4s was raised for the work. Party at Day's Bay. A delightful party was given recently by Mr. and"1 Mrs. Leslie A. Swift, of "Ferryside,'-" Day's Bay, in honour of Mr. Swift's sister, Miss Joan Swift, of Lower Hutt. The hostess wore a charming frock of cream, flowered taffeta, and Mrs. Swift, sen. (mother of the guest of honour)j Hvore a cherry lace gown. Miss Swift, who was the recipient of many presents, wore a becoming, frock of silver tinsel with a lemon dahlia shoulder posy. A dainty supper was served, the room being tastefully decorated for the occasion with pink hydrangeas. Speeches were made by the Rev. D. O. "Williams, M.A., Mr. A. Swift, and Mr. L. Aj Swift. Solos were sung by Messrs. I*. Swift and D. O. 'Williams, and Mr. E. Horman played pianoforte items. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. W. Swift, tho latter wearing floral satin, Mrs. Halliburton, Misses V. Costlcy, I. Parsons, E. Playter, E. Watson-Munro, E. Judd, S./Foster, V. Pe.irce, and Messrs. C. Swift, Claude Swift, B. Horman, E. Reardon, J. Houston, D. Williams, and T. Pearce. > . Wadestown League of Mothers. . There was an excellent attendance at the recent opening meeting of^ the Waaestown branch of the League of Mothers. The chair was taken by Mrs. F. Wilkinson (the new president), who was introduced early in the proceedr ings by Mrs. McGowan, who is retiring on account of ill-health. A warm welcome was, accorded Mrs. Wilkinson and a member of the Lyall Bay branch,1 who was present. Vocal items were given by Mesdames Turner and Harrison, the latter also playing the accompaniments. Mrs. % Wilkinson then read the aims and objects of the league, for the benefit of new and old members. This was followed by an excellent leeturette, which was delivered by Mrs. D. Barnes, on "The Faith and Optimism of Mothers in the Home."' As it was the sixth birthday of the Wadestown branch, a cake, beautifully made and iced by Mesdames Liggins and Bull, was cut and served with the tea which an efficient committee had prepared. Invitations Issued. Invitations have been issued by the president and officers of the Welling--ton Aero Club for an official reception to Air Commodore Sir Charles Kin»sford Smith, M.C., A.F.C.. at the Rongotai Aerodrome. City Mission Shop. Cakes, jams, and produce will be offered for sale at the shop that is being opened tomorrow and on Saturday in the T. and G. Building, to raise funds for the Wellington City Mission. Funds are urgently needed, and women are asked to remember this shop when buying their week-end stores.
