Reference to the death of the following former representatives and officials of the Wellington Rugby Union, was made by v tho president, 'Dr. P. F. MeEvedy, at the annual , meeting last night:—Messrs. Alec. Campbell, M. J. Crombie, J. Pudney, J. Taylor, H. J. Stock, W. L. Sievers, J. S. Johnson, and B. Finucane> The usual motion of condolence was passed.

At a meeting of the board of trustees of the New Zealand Institute for the Blind, Mr. J. B. Henry, late manager' of the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, was appointed to the board to-fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Mr. H..E. Vaile.

Professor Waldo H. Dunn, Wooster College, Ohio, and a well-know American author, who has been visiting 3N Tew Zealand to get material for writing the biography of Sir Eobert Stout, is a passenger by the Wanganella for Sydney, en route to England and America. Chief-Detective J.'Carroll arrived in Wellington today from Christehurch and will take over his new duties here next week.

_ Bandmaster H. Seotney, of the Salvation Army Band, is leaving by the Wanganclla today on a visit to his brother in Australia.

Mr. H. Chown, -o-ho has been a member of the Diamond Football Club since 1921, -n-as the recipient of a presentation at the annual meeting of the club. Mr. Chown is leaving for Perth.

Mr. Alan Monkhouse, who was one of the British engineers arrested at Moscow by the Soviet Secret Police, was at one time.a resident of Stratford (Says the "Taranaki Daily News"). His father, the late Mr. W. Monkhouse [purchased a farm, property for Mm, but he did not take it up. lMr, J. B. Jeromson, who recently retired from the position of chief signalman to the Wellington. Harbour Board, will leave by the Bangitiki tomorrow on a visit to the Shetland Islands.

Two Ne^r Zealand students now at English universities have passed the M.A. (N.Z.) examination recently. One is Mr. J. M. Bertram (Auckland), who is at New College, Oxford, and the other- is Mr. H. I\ Harding (Christchurch), who is at St. John's College, Cambridge. The former took First Class Honours in English, and the latter Second Class Honours in Philosophy. Mr. C. "W. R. Dart (Nelson), a graduate of Canterbury College, now studying at the Institute of Tours, gained first place in a special French course for foreign students. Entrants included German, Italian, and BritislTstudents.

It is officially gazetted in England that Captain G. H. Clifton, M.C., jNT.Z. Stafi Corps, is granted the local rank of Captain, Jan. 6, with, seniority Feb. 12, 1925, while employed on military duty in the United Kingdom. ' .
