CORRESPONDENCE
PRICE OF MILK
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Will you permit me to ask what reasons our City Council and nearby farmers have for maintaining the present high price of milk? Up-country farmers who have to sell their produce at London market values are receiving lOd to Is per lb butterfat. At present a good average would be a 5 per cent. test. That is five pounds of butter-fat in every 1001b of milk. Hence London values say that 1001b' o£ milk (or ten gallons) at Is per lb butter-fat is worth ss, or 7.% d per quart wow. our City Council is charging sixpence per quart! One hundred pounds of milk is ten gallons, and ten gallons are 40 quarts, and 40 quarts at sixpence each come to £1. Now, Sir, there is a vast difference between 5s and £1, but tor the life of me I cannot see what could possibly justify it—l am, etc., CURIOUS;
