BOWING
NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL
The council of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association last evening considered the Wellington Rowing Association's application for permission to fix the distance for the interprovincial eightoared race, at two miles. The council decided that the rules for the contest definitely set out that the distance must be three miles whenever practicable, and not less than two miles, and these rules must be observed. The -Wellington Association is to be informed'to this effect. It ,-was, reported that an inquiry had been received from Wanganni as to whether any one province could enter two crews in the eight-oar race. The secretary, Mr. A. D. Bayfeild, said he understood that in addition to the.Wanganui Union crew which has been selected' to represent the province, the Aramohp Club eight desired to compete.. It was stated that the local association had no objection to this proposal. The council decided that bo long as both crewß were entered by an Association, there was no reason why they- should not compete. The chairman's report on the recent championship regatta at Wanganui was received, and from this and reports received from other sources it was gathered that the regatta was most capably run and was a credit to the officials who had charge of it.
