UNIVERSITY FACULTY

CHURCH RECOMMENDA- . TION

The establishment of a faculty of. theology in the. University of New Zealand was. 'before the- Con^egational Union Assembly at Auckland again yesterday, and the following resolution was passed:—"That the Congregational Church, in common with every kindred body in New Zealand, urges that the necessary steps be taken to influence the Government and the New Zealand University, authorities to establish a faculty of theology under the aegis of tho University of New Zealand." It was agreed (reports the "Auckland Star")' to send a copy of this resolution to the Prime Minister and the chancellors of the various universities.

In connection with the training of students for the ministry, a resolution was passed altering ' .c constitution of the Congregational Collego so as to co-ordinate tho extramural course of study and examinations with the Congregational Unions in Australia. This new course of study will require all Congregational extramural students to take tho courso of study prescribed by the Melbourne School of Divinity. A resolution was passed abolishing the rule of a minimum stipend for one year in order to make the position consistent with tho fact that a number of the ministers were already receiving less than the minimum.

On the matter of a voluntary equalisation of salaries, it was agreed that a _ special committee of laymen and ministers, should- be called for the purpose. . , l ■

The annual report of tho New Zealand Congregational Women's Federation showed that this organisation had strengthened the bonds of faith, love, and order among the women of tho denomination. In addition to this, the Congregational women of Kew Zealand had been enabled to express their voices unitedly on such public questions as the Bible in schools and" indecent, picture films.
