INSPECTOR WARD

FAREWELL FUNCTION

An. informal gathering was held in the Detective Office last night to farewell Inspector K. Ward, who has been transferred on."promotion to take charge of the Wangantii police district. On behalf of the members of the Force, Superintendent Emerson presented Mr. Ward with. anr alarm clock and a law volume.

Superintendent Emerson, Inspector Lander, and Sub-Inspector Martin all spoke in eulogistic terms of Inspector Ward's ability as a police officer, particularly as a detettive, and of the confidence he inspired in the men under him.

Inspector Lander said that the departing officer had always been a ' tower of strength at the Wellington station. Very few had such a knowledge of the criminal law or the faculty for applying that knowledge as Inspector Ward.. A great deal of the success of .the Wellington detective force was due to Mr. Ward's outstanding ability. .

Other officers who spoke were SeniorSergeant Butler, Senior-Sergeant Dempsey, Detective-Sergeant Tricklebank, De-tective-Sergeant Bevell, Detective-Sergeant Jarrold, and Detective McLennan.

In returning thanks, Inßpector Ward remarked that the success that had attended the efforts of the detective force was not so much due to the man at the top as to those who did the actual spade work. He paid a tribute to those officers who had so loyally and ably co-operated with, him.
