EDUCATION RESEARCH

COMMITTEE ESTABLISHED

Following on tho successful establishment in Australia of a council for research in education organised on a national basis, under the direction of Mr. Frank Tate, C.M.G., 1.5.0., M.A., the trustees of the Carnegie Corporation of New York have nominated a special committee to investigate and report on the possibilities of a similar foundation in New Zealand. The committee, which has been nominated' from New York, consists of Professor T. A. Hunter, vice-chancellor of the University of New Zealand (convener), Mr. Duncan Rae, M.A., principal of the Auckland Training College, and Mr. Frank Milner, president of the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Association. This committee has held a preliminary meeting at Wellington to consider proposals, submitted from New York, and is impressed with the great potentialities of such an educational development. In view of the extremely liberal endowment granted, to Australia for a similar purpose, all interested in education will realise the magnitude of this scheme and its almost illimitable potentialities of service in the field of educational research. The committee, realising its great responsibility, has decided to consult not only the Department of Education and the university, but all other educational organisations in the Dominion with a view to drawing up an authoritative report which will demonstrate to the Carnegie trustees not only the advisability of such a foundation, but its endorsement in New Zealand by all interested in education.
